Arial view of tropical Caribbean island
Situated at the western tip of Roatan’s southern coast, West Bay is home to the island’s best and most popular beach, West Bay Beach. This area is well-known for offering world-class activities and accommodations to visitors and locals alike.
It’s also one of the areas that offer direct access to the Mesoamerican Reef right from the shoreline, making it the ideal spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Moreover, despite its immense popularity among tourists and locals, West Bay Beach can still be quiet, relaxing and a great destination. In fact, West Bay Beach has been consistently voted as one of the best Caribbean and Central American beaches, making it the perfect tropical paradise for retirees.
Lastly, West Bay is also home to numerous ex-pat communities, such as Turtle Crossing, Keyhole Bay, and the Lighthouse Estates, which can help make new residents feel right at home.
Although many often confuse it with West Bay, West End is a Roatan community with its own set of unique characteristics that set it apart from most others.
In fact, this western Roatan community is known as the center of the island’s nightlife and home to its numerous and most popular dive shops, bars, and restaurants.
Aside from this, West End is considered one of the island’s more unique community areas, with many of the storefronts and homes lined along the mile-long oceanfront street being family-owned. Overall the community has kept a lot of its local charm and character even as tourism has grown.
However, this doesn’t stop this neighborhood from enjoying immense diversity; West End also welcomes ex-pats, tourists, and mainlanders, giving it a true sense of community and is very popular with long-term residents and retirees.
